Maun Animal Welfare Society (MAWS) is an animal welfare charity based in Maun, Botswana and located on the fringes of the Okavango Delta, the world’s largest inland delta and one of Africa’s most wildlife-rich areas. 
MAWS was founded in 2003 with a mission to sterilise and vaccinate dogs and cats to reduce breeding and the risk of disease transmission to human and wildlife populations. The only CNVR (collect, neuter, vaccinate, return) society in the country, we dispatch volunteer veterinary teams to remote areas, bringing vital treatment to isolated communities.
We have ambitious plans and to assist us in achieving our goals we’re hiring a Fundraising Manager. Based in Maun, the successful applicant would report to the charity’s Committee and manage fundraising activities in Botswana and internationally, including but not limited to:

From our clinic in Maun we run Botswana’s largest CNVR (collect, neuter, vaccinate, return) operation: sterilising and vaccinating the region’s domestic dog and feral cat population. We also dispatch veterinary teams to remote areas where villagers live side-by-side with Botswana's rich and varied wildlife. Our work helps to prevent the transmission of rabies and canine distemper: diseases which can decimate wildlife including the African Wild Dog, lions, leopards and cheetahs.


We’ve been working to improve domestic animal welfare since 1998, were formally registered as a Botswana charity in 2007, and we registered a UK ‘sister’ charity in 2016 to help with our fundraising endeavours. Over the years we have enjoyed financial and logistical support from well-known international foundations and charities including WVS, Dogs Trust, SPANA, The Marchig Trust, and Fondation Brigitte Bardot.


We are now looking for a professional fundraising manager to help us take our organisation to the next level.


Our requirements

We’re looking for a dedicated, lively, flexible, and pragmatic fundraising manager. The candidate must be a university graduate, with a degree showing training and skills in dealing with foreign aid organisations, in grant-seeking proposal formulation and must be well-versed in liaising with big corporates, government bodies, trusts and grant-giving organisations. The candidate must have experience in coordinating fundraising campaigns and be familiar with all mainstream social media tools used for fundraising.


The candidate must preferably have lived and worked in Botswana or similar for at least two years; have experience with local cultural organisations, charities and NGOs; and should have knowledge and experience of International Fundraising symposiums.


The candidate must be an animal lover and must subscribe to MAWS’ vision of promoting a society which respects, protects and cares for all species of animal domestic, livestock or wildlife.

You will be provided a competitive salary, commensurate with experience. You will have plenty of time off to explore the region’s amazing wildlife, and will have no trouble making lifelong friends in our good natured and fun loving community. We would prefer someone to be able to commit to a two-year contract if possible, however we are happy to review each application on a case-by-case basis.
